Your mission

Aerospacelab is looking for a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our production engineering team. You will design and detail the mechanical structure of our automated production and inspection machines – frames, fixtures, tooling, end-effectors, and moving assemblies – working closely with automation, controls, and manufacturing engineers. This is an entry-level, hands-on technical role with no people-management responsibilities, offering close mentorship from senior mechanical and automation engineers while you grow into a full ownership role on our satellite manufacturing lines.

Key responsibilities

Design mechanical components and sub-assemblies for automated production and inspection cells (frames, fixtures, jigs, tooling, end-effectors) using 3D CAD (SolidWorks or equivalent).
Select and size standard mechanical components (linear guides, actuators, bearings, pneumatic/hydraulic elements) for new equipment.
Produce detailed manufacturing drawings and support procurement and machining of custom parts.
Support assembly, integration, and commissioning of mechanical subsystems on the shop floor, alongside automation and controls engineers.
Contribute to basic structural and kinematic calculations (loads, deflection, motion clearances) for new machine designs.

Must have

Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering, electromechanical engineering, or a related field.
0–2 years of relevant experience (internships or academic projects count) – this is a junior-level position.
Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, or equivalent) and a solid grasp of mechanical design fundamentals (tolerancing, material selection, fastening, kinematics).
Genuine interest in hands-on mechanical design for production equipment and machine building.
Comfortable reading and producing technical drawings.
Curious, rigorous, and eager to learn from senior engineers across mechanical, controls, and software disciplines.
Fluent in English; French is a plus.

Nice to have

Basic knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, or motion control components.
Academic or personal project experience with robotics, automation, or machine building.
Experience in an aerospace, space, or other highly regulated manufacturing environment.
